Five German News Stories

 1.  I sat and watched ZDF news last night (public TV, Channel Two).  They did a update over the fireworks mess from Silvester (31st of December) in Berlin, with the arrests of people.  It's roughly one-third of those arrested who held German citizenship....the rest were migrants/visa-holders.  Wasn't just a single group....varied, and also included a couple of women (something like 2-percent of those arrested were female).

If you view various news outlets.....majority have legal folks explaining the arrests, and how they expect no one to get real jail-time....just fines.

2.  Odd story out of Moscow appearing in German news.....Putin has ordered chief of defense to conduct an inventory of 'assets'.

The suggested story is that virtually everyone has kept their mouth shut on winter-gear, rifles, ammo, etc.  The way this goes.....no one wants to suggest to Putin that they've reached the level of just waiting out on this war.

Will Shoigu be 'honest' here?

3.  Croatians are pretty peeved over the switch from the Kuna currency....to the Euro (started 1 Jan).....prices have gone up.  Germans said the said thing when the D-Mark was dumped.

4.  Berlin is about six weeks away from this forced re-vote.  As of yesterday, if you were on the absentee ballot listing.....your ballot had been mailed out.

5.  Some infighting occurring within the CDU Party, over migrants, and general view of the party platform.  Merz (leader of the party)....has grumbled somewhat over what he refers to as 'Merkelians'....who want to keep the current migrant policy in place, with no changes.
