Five German News Stories

 1.  Among the violent Silvester events....Bonn also had some stuff going on.  Focus had lengthily report on that.  Worth a read.

In the Bonn episode, around eight individuals had 'conspired' (planned out) their use of fireworks and attacks on fire crews, police and ambulance personnel.  The eight were all born in Germany but have immigrant histories.

Will simply drag long discussions up about bad-boy behavior and loss of respect for law/order in German society.

One odd aspect came up from those arrested in Berlin for firework's attacks.....a quarter of them had a dual passport situation.  Police disclosed that yesterday.

2.  Is the Marder APC 'donation' from Germany to Ukraine a big deal?

The Marder is NOT a tank, and in a Russian battle situation where their tanks are around and active.....it might not be that great of an asset.  However, at this point....the Russians have used up a lot of their tanks.

3.  There's roughly 15-billion Euro missing in the 'pot' for German public clinics/hospitals.  Some of this relates to rising energy/heat costs.  Threat of bankruptcy?  Now at a high level.

4.  Some chatter in Berlin over the firework's assault business....prosecutors will have two categories over those arrested.  If you are in the right age group....you get a pass to juvenile system.  Otherwise?  You could be in serious trouble if you attacked a fireman or policeman....with 3 months of jail as a minimum (going up to five years).

The odd part of the situation....a entire process will have to be accomplished for those in the age group of 18 to 21....to decide if they fit into juvenile or adult court.  Looking over this chatter....that process could take several months to reach a conclusion.  If you fail this process (going to adult court), I expect an appeal process and another three to six months in the process.

5.  For Berlin and Brandenburg.....authorities are discussing dumping the Covid mask requirement for local bus/train travel.  Could happen by early Feb.  Decision to be made in the next week.
