Three Things You Notice

 1.  ARD (Channel 1, public TV) has a ongoing Covid update piece here.

Feb/Mar of 2022 was the peak period for Covid in the past year.  There was a slight 'peak' in Jul/Aug, and then mid-Nov-to-mid-Dec.  Since then?  Fairly low numbers among the German public.

Cause?  None can really be given.

Vax-status?  In most of the sixteen states, it's near 65-percent.  Sachsen is the lowest statistically....at 51-percent.

2.  Lot of negative hype from the police and fire departments in Germany about Silvester fireworks and drunken behavior.  There's a call for a total fireworks ban.  Wouldn't shock me if most of the urban centers in Germany pass some type of ban low on the sale of fireworks for 2023.

3.  Starting yesterday in France.....condoms will be free of charge, if you are between 18 and 25 in age.  You just walk into a pharmacy....present your ID, and they will issue you a box.

Will they be getting the top-class type?  No one really says that.

Reason?  Well....in the past couple of years....sexual diseases have gone through the roof in France, so the gov't thinks they will 'cure' things.

I paused over this.....they aren't offering the free condoms to the under-18 crowd or the older folks.  Course, maybe older French guys don't get sexual urges much.
