1. Bad enough on weather....state of NRW...closed schools for Monday. Lot of parents expected to show up for work though.
2. Odds of a collapse of the coalition in 2026? Near 1-percent. However....as you get into 2027....there are a couple of factors at play, and I give it near a 30-to-40 percent chance of a collapse.
Factors? First, several state elections come up in 2026. While the SPD or CDU are projected to win in three of them....there's at least two where the AfD is likely to pull heavy votes. It's possible that the Berlin Senate election (Sep) and the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern land election will be sour points for both SPD/CDU.
Second point: the economy. Merz was supposed to bring up a positive era....which has yet to be seen.
Third point: the Ukraine-Russia needs to conclude....to help the German economy improve.
3. Head of the Bavarian police-narcotics division gave a talk over the weekend.....says cocaine is now a problem in Germany....gram of the stuff now at 70 Euro or below.
4. Both Swiss and German authorities complaining over European-produced E-buses....not up to expectations.
5. SPD pushing grocery operations to offer 'affordable' prices on basic food items.
6. WELT piece by Harald Martenstein....interesting topic: wise-people avoided state mandates (like E-cars/heat pumps)....in a better position than those who ran to the mandates. Worth a read if you can find it.
7. Police called to the Koln main station....as a train pulled in. Guy noted with a machete...sleeping on a train. Blood stains on the machete. Police investigating.
8. Temperatures back to normal in central Germany....day-time, near plus-6 C. Next ten days....from plus-4 to plus-8.
