Well....you run a small business. On paper, you generate about 6,000 Euro of profit per month....that you admit to....to the German tax authorities.
But the reality is....you generate around 10,000 Euro a month. Each week, you hand your wife 1k Euro in cash, and she goes to the local bank where you have a box. Over a year, she will put around 52k Euro into that box.
So when you come up and need a new car, or want a summer vacation....you use the bank box cash.
Illegal? Well....if you get caught.
How many Germans engage in 'black' money? No one really knows. Might be ten-percent....might be 50-percent.
So the security of these bank boxes....matters.
