What Is The Chief Theme Of A Coalition Gov't (Federal or State)?

When a German brings up the mechanics of a coalition gov't....it means that no one got 50-percent of the vote, and you need to partner....to achieve an end to the election.  Chief task?  Give-and-take....whatever you promised your voters....is on the table to be subtracted, or changed.

Coalition-building has become a technical task....with a listing....probably near 30-plus pages....where you offer cabinet positions, and agreeable points.  The 'buddy-party' agrees, and then the task of voting positions comes up.  If they want  to raise taxes....it's likely to be very limited in scale.  If they want more police hired....there's to be a severe limit.

A center-right party (CDU for example) coalition-building with a center-left party (SPD)?  No problem.

A center-right party (CDU) coalition-building with far left (Linke/BSW)?  In 99-percent cases....will never happen.

If you have AfD winning with 44-percent of the vote, and trying to partner with the CDU or SPD?  It'll never happen.  Partnering with BSW?  AfD might lay enough on the table (like half of all cabinet posts for the state).....to entice BSW (to get the 6-percent required).

How long is a coalition-building period?  Typically 30 days. If you haven't achieved success by 45?  There's usually talk of a second election....something that most everyone is against.

Are agreeable people put on the coalition-building teams?  Yes....that's typically where you find the 'nice' (agreeable) folks....who won't utter crazy talk.

Can coalitions  come to an abrupt 'end'.....two to three years later?  Yes.

Can you run a gov't for a short-period of time without a coalition?  This was attempted in 1930....for roughly four months. An election followed.
