1. It appears a lot of criticism has come up over the draft bill to ban new installation of natural gas/oil heat systems in private homes in 2024. The bill originated with the Green Party's Habeck.
I'd say presently....with the FDP 'blessing' missing....it's not likely to pass in this form, or it will be extended to some date five to ten years in the future.
2. Numbers out for food inflation for the month of February.....near 22-percent across Germany.
3. The German Agricultural Minister....Green Party Cem Özdemir...has drafted up a law to ban just about all advertising on 'bad' food aimed at kids in Germany.
My wife (German) and I got into a discussion over this. The draft says zero advertising on bad foods, between 6 AM and 11 PM.....for kids under age 14. It'd include FB, YouTube, Twitter and billboards as well....going well beyond TV.
The bad food group? Ice cream, chocolate, breakfast cereal, candy, chips, drinks, etc.
For the TV network Super RTL.....which is developed mostly for teens (say age 10 to age 14)....it'd be utter destruction. For KiKA (public TV network aimed at kids)....they have zero advertising and would have no problems. From the other four commercial networks that might have TV programing aimed at kids....other than toy commercials....there's nothing to bring money in to pay for the operation.
Could you get around the law by making commercials by using 18-year old actors? Based on the wording....yeah.
The company in the worst position? I'd say Nutella. Virtually all of their commercials....for years, has revolved a family setting with kids under ten, teens, and the parents.
Odds of this passing? That's going to be openly discussed and I would imagine the coalition partner....the FDP....will say 'no' to the bill.
3. Some report out of the UK....early on in the Covid era....there was a political debate quietly going on....to kill all cats in the UK, in order to prevent animal-to-human transmission.
There's going to be a lot of talk over this, and coming up prior to the election....it'll anger a lot of cat-owners how far this was going to go.
4. It would appear that Russian recon jet destroyed in Belarus a couple of days ago....was destroyed by a drone (sent by the Ukrainians).
5. Someone added up the projects within the coalition gov't for 2024, and they exceed the budget by roughly 70 billion Euro. A series of meetings will have to occur....where certain things are cut.
