My village had a 'fest' (started Friday afternoon) which will end today. For several decades, it was a big deal....then Covid came along, and for two years....nothing.
So how do things appear in the after-Covid era?
There used to be a huge fest tent put up.....with music and a beer-garden effect going on. After Covid? Nothing on the tent business.
Beer-drinking? A lot of that, and in closed quarters (shocking, you know).
The normal carnival atmosphere? All there....nothing missing.
The parade from Sunday afternoon? All happened as it usually does, although I'd say 50-percent of the over 70-year old crowd were not there, and some viewed from their balconies or a safe distance, with fear still in their mind on mingling with people.
If you asked me on a Covid-outbreak? Oh, I'd bet 300 people caught Covid over the weekend.
But the end-result....Covid is finished as a worry mechanism for the majority of locals.
