War Criminal Story

So in the public mind of Germans.....the question has lingered since 2013.....did the German government allow war criminals from Iraq and Syria to enter Germany?  ARD (public TV, Channel One) picked up the topic.

Short answer?  Well....it's still under investigation.

Thousands of reports were lodged with the German government over suspected war criminals being in Germany.

What is said is that the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BamF) has around 5,000 reports or references to issues, which could be viewed under the category of crimes under international law.

The reports were packaged up and sent onto the German to the Attorney General of Germany and the Federal Cops.  So far, out of potentially 2,000 possible situations....only 129 case investigations have been conducted.

How did this info get out to the journalists?  Basically, an opposition party (the FDP) demanded a answer to their questions in the Bundestag.  It wasn't something that the coalition government wanted to chat about.

Public distrust over the suggestion of war criminals existing in Germany?  It just adds more of a burden for the CDU and SPD parties to handle.
