Recommending Babylon Berlin

Around two weeks ago, I sat down and watched via ARD (public TV, Channel One) here in Germany....my first ever viewing of Babylon Berlin.

For those who haven't viewed the series....it's now in two seasons (just around eight episodes per season), and it centers around Berlin in 1929. It is probably one of the finest productions of the era, with unusual scripting and great acting.

The basic theme?  There's some crime, murder, and mayhem going on in Berlin, with the police, Soviet thugs, Communist union folks, the mafia, and with the general population itself.  Yes, there's some provocative scenes, some light nudity, some suggestions of perverse stuff, some moments of violence....but it's also got some scripted shocker moments and a great portrayal of this era around 1929. If you wanted an idea of what was coming before the Nazis arrived....this series is it.

The odds of a third season?  Virtually guaranteed, and I think it's bound to cover a 4th and 5th year as well.  So if you can find the DVD (with English text)....settle back for a 5-star series.  The chief character that I'd pay attention to?  The older guy as Detective Chief Inspector Bruno Wolter....Bruno gets maybe three or four scenes in every episode but he is central to the continuing 'saga'.
