Hacker Update

This morning, our regional public TV carrier (HR) went and reported that a big event had occurred with this hacker event within the Berlin Bundestag over the weekend.

Based on investigative efforts.....cops came to a particular house, and arrested a 20-year old from here in Hessen (city unknown) for the massive hacking.

What they say is that the kid is a student of some type, and that he lives at home with his parents.  Beyond that....nothing much.

His parents reaction?  Nothing.  I'm sure the cops came in and did a complete search warrant, and probably took every computer and laptop in the entire house.  'Dad' might be a bit hostile over what junior was doing.

What happens now?  Charges of some type will occur, and it's likely to be a court episode in three to five months.  Lengthy jail-time?  They may offer a deal for him to explain how he hacked into the system, and then allow the judge to make some 'deal'.  If it were me, I'd mandate the kid not be near any computer or network, or social media....for five years.  If he violated the deal, then he deserves some ten-year sentence.  It would be curious to know what exactly he is studying.  End of the story?  I have my doubts.

UPDATE:  The kid involved?  Cops now say he had basic skills for hacking.....he was not a computer science education guy or anything of that sort.  By that commentary, they are basically admitting that the set-up at the Bundestag was not designed by Einstein-like software engineers.  Reason for the hack?  Well...the kid says he was frustrated with journalists, politicians, etc....and this was something that he could accomplish. Prison time?  Paragraph 202a falls into play....he was spying on the Bundestag.  Max of three years and a fine, but he's 20, and that might open up the juvenile door without the serious jail-time.
