My regional public TV network (HR) carried a curious piece in the news this morning.
About a 90 minute drive north of Frankfurt is the small German town of Melsungen. They have a clinic with a small emergency room operation. They came to some point where they were fairly desperate for a doctor, and advertised around.
Some guy shows up....38 years old....throws a resume on the table with the various certifications required. They accept him, without really checking on past places listed on the resume. Most Germans will tell you....for any job (not just a doctor job), that it's very 'ify' if contact will be made with the previous company or situation.
So the guy was put to work. Somewhere around the 5th emergency service situation, the nurse helping out....came to the conclusion that the guy simply wasn't a doctor. She notified the bosses, and he was suspended.
It's taken seven months to dig through this mess, but all of his papers and certificates? Fake. Yes, he has NO medical background.
The hiring folks seem to be a bit embarrassed that it got this far. They admit that they were fairly desperate for an employee and just hired the first guy who walked through the door.
The 38-year old fake doctor? Well....he's not sorry, and he is suing to get compensation over his 'firing'. Yes, he wants job compensation.
Then we come to this funny trail....this wasn't the first time that he'd pretended to be a doctor. Cops found that he'd applied or actually worked in a couple of medical situations (even one hospital). Back in October, prosecutors finally brought him into a courtroom, and charged him up. Convictions? Yes. He'll do 2.5 years in prison, but he's appealing the whole thing. I don't think it's the last time you will see this guy. Upon release, I think he will go straight back to the fake doctor routine. The funny thing is if he'd just had a year or two of college with medical related classes....I think he could have bluffed his way through, and done basic medical attention.
