Is Disco Still Around in Germany?

In the late 1970s....you could have asked any US military guy stationed in Germany about disco's and they would have pointed out at least five or six in the Frankfurt, Mainz, or Wiesbaden area.  For twenty years in Wiesbaden, the 'Big Apple' existed (finally dying out around 15 years ago).

What came to replace them?  Basically the same thing except the lack of use over the word 'disco' (dance clubs, 'lounges' or just 'clubs' are the typical thing used now).  In fact, in the bulk of Wiesbaden today, there's only one single club still uses the phrase of 'disco' in their name.

What the disco era did bring in....within the German view of things, was simply a club with music, booze/beer, and action.  At some point in the 1990s....Ecstasy (the drug) came along and became part of the new scene with dance clubs.  The drug?  Well....it's one of those 1950s drugs that became a trance-like deal for people.

When the Rave club deal arrived, Ecstasy was the major drug accompanying the new development.  To some degree, I think that helped to speed up the end for about half of the discos that existed at the time.

So, yes, there's still a few disco clubs left in Germany, and they function along the lines that people remember in the 1980s.
