If you sat last night (Monday) and were watching most networks in Europe, they were carrying a live feed of Notre Dame burning. Here in Germany, both N-TV and N-24 carried it live.
Public TV? ARD or ZDF? No. There was a film clip at the 8 PM ARD news, and another clip for both ARD/ZDF late news. That was it. The late news folks did spend several minutes telling the story, but it was fairly limited.
Over the past three years, this has been a continual trend....any significant event with live importance, is avoided by the two German public networks.
Part of this issue (my suspicion) is that they really don't have the crew or the number of people required, to run anything like this after 5 PM.
Election news is different....those events will go on for several hours after the election concludes, but that is planned out and known for months in advance.
