It's a page three type story (Brit paper) but it's worth discussing for a moment.
The EU's Asylum Support Office came up in the last month and noted that there is a growth period going on with Latin Americans seeking asylum and immigration into Europe. Roughly 10-percent over the past year.
Countries mentioned? Nicaragua, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, and El Salvador.
If you look at the numbers....almost 20,000 applied in the first five months of 2019 from Venezuela.
Where are they heading? The journalists choose to leave that part out. One might suspect it's mostly Spain, but it's unknown.
A chance that this will only increase after the first wave assimilates? One might go and suggest that the 2020 numbers will double or triple over what 2019 delivers. Part of this is due to instability (Venezuela), and partly due to economic issues (especially in Peru and Nicaragua). In the case of Colombia, if you had a technical background or higher education....it'd make sense to look toward Europe for better opportunities.
Between the first wave in 2013 to 2016 (mostly to Germany), the second wave underway presently (the Med route), and this potential wave from Latin America (2019 onward).....there's a problem laying there for the EU and the lack of any cohesive plan or structure. No one wants to admit a limit and there's zero potential for a EU 'rule'.
