I noticed this short political story over at ARD (German public TV, Channel One) this morning....with the SPD new leadership and their vow that public attention and polling would double over the next year.
Currently, it doesn't matter which polling group you use....the SPD is nationally somewhere between 12 and 16 percent.....which is half of what they were a decade ago.
So the new leadership is on a follow-up campaign....to suggest that it'll take a year or two to get the polling back up to around 30 percent.
What happened to the voters? I would suggest that they fled to three categories. A fair number of them (probably near half of the frustrated SPD-former-voters), went to the Green Party. From what was left....some went to Merkel's right-of-center CDU Party, and some even went to the AfD Party (mostly over negativity brewing still about the migration and immigration 'chaos').
The expectations upon the 'bold' new leadership? By the end of 2021....I expect both new 'bosses' of the SPD Party to depart, and new 'bold' leadership will arrive....to repeat the same process.
