'Blizzard of the Century'?

For around seven days now, weathermen in Germany have been talking about front 'A' and front 'B' colliding mostly around northern Germany (Bremen) and going as far south as mid-Hessen (Kassel region and 50 km below).  The expectation?  Starting on Saturday evening, the fronts will collide.....in the northern regions....50 cm (20 inches) of snow will down, with 5 cm on the far south of this front.

Complete shutdown for about 20-percent of Germany by mid-day on Sunday?  Yes, without much doubt.

The comical side of this....they've been talking about for a minimum of five days, and virtually everyone should have stockpiled beef, food, and necessities back on Thursday or Friday.  There's probably going to be a mad rush this morning (Saturday) to fill up the emergency requirements.

I will say this for Germans....for a measly ten inches of snow.....no one gets hyped up much.  You generally know at least 72 hours in advance, and the snowplows will run at least on the main roads around most villages and cities.

If you sit in a pub and bring up serious snowfall, virtually every German has some particular year and will sit there....gazing at the wall and describe some epic storm in roughly 500 words.

The Bavarians tend to claim more status than most folks, but the northern Germans will go back to December 1978, and talk about that two-week period at great length.

So this is topic number one for the next seven days?  More or less.  Oddly, it'll beat Covid-19 on the news starting Sunday night.
