Germany and Covid-19: 8 Feb 2021

 1.  NDR did a update this morning....chatting about a group of German senior citizens who got the Biontech shots (remember, their deal is two shots)....in the past couple of days were diagnosed with the British variant of the virus.

What's generally said....14 senior citizens, in the Belm region, from one single residence....but all appear to have a mild situation.

If you read through the details (limited, I admit), you generally get the impression that the vaccine is not going to prevent you from getting the virus, but it'll cut a great portion of the virus down in size.

2.  ARD reports that Thuringia (the state) is openly discussing lessening of the ban rules.

3.  German government cost?  ARD put up a piece and discussed what the Finance Minister said over the weekend.....he is projecting that the bills from the Covid-19 era....will take about a decade for the government to recover from. He also indicated that a wealth tax will have to be the path ahead.

4.  N-TV had a piece up today and said that Austria has reached the end of the lock-down, and is going to lessen the ban rules.

5.  Total infected since day one?  2,291,524.  Total deaths since day one?  61,602.  Source: Wiesbaden Aktuell.

6.  Trend-line?  If you look at various graphics....the peak was around the end of December to mid-January.  Since then, the trend for infections and deaths have been lessening.  Part of this is the severe lock-down effort....some dealing with almost no travel/tourism....some dealing with schools running various at-home efforts, or 50-50 classes.  My wife has suggested that even 'home-office' has forced to such a degree, that this might have also helped.
