Several months ago, here in Germany, there was a opposition attack on the Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen. If you remember, back in the mid-summer period....von der Leyen suddenly got the job of 'head' of the EU, and promptly left (real quick).
The opposition kept thinking....they'd eventually dig into the communications that von der Leyen held...especially on her cellphone.
ZDF (Channel Two, public TV) picked up the story and updated it.
So what has occurred is kinda interesting. All that data and email business on her phone (which she did turn over)....just got deleted. Yep, no one can say who did it, but it was after she handed the phone back to the office manager.
The tail-end of this discussion? Von der Leyen kinda hints that she's just not into technology stuff, and doesn't know anything. Yeah, it is a bit funny but it's completely believable.
What'll happen now? There's a discussion going on that the government needs to meddle more deeply into data collection....text messages, Whatsapp, and Twitter all need to be kept for oversight.
Eventually, one might go and even suggest that 'yellow stickies' ought to be archived and kept for oversight.
The end of this von der Leyen episode? Yeah.
