1. The Kantar Survey folks did a polling and found this among likely CDU-voters (the right-of-center group, Merkel's party).....that the current party 'boss' (AKK) is not favored very much because of the political crisis. In fact, the report says that 72-percent want AKK out of the party 'boss' job.
The odds of this happening? I'd give it less than a 10-percent chance presently. However, if this mess continues on for another two weeks without a resolution....I'd put the odds higher to 50-percent at that point.
But I will admit this.....there's virtually nothing that the national CDU Party headquarters can do about this mess. So journalists trying to hype up some poll, and say that getting her out of the way will resolve this.....are mostly just blowing 'smoke'.
2. N-TV says this afternoon that Chancellor Merkel called up the Linke Party former Premier-President (Ramelow), and basically said that there is zero chance that the CDU Party apparatus (either nationally or in the Thuringian state) will 'help' Ramelow or the Linke Party.
If they hold this line, there's virtually nothing much left here except call for a new election (mid-April).
However, it's possible now that the AfD Party will call up and let Ramelow know that they'd support him in an assembly action, and get him his old job back. Harsh reaction by the Linke Party? Oh yes, they'd be in serious public jeopardy if they accepted this 'help'.
3 ARD (German public TV, Channel One) now says that this evening's Anne Will Show.....a public forum carried live (roughly 60 minutes).....will be about the Thuringian crisis. Five-star guests? Oh, yes. It promises to be a serious debate, with a number of folks carving out positions and accusing each other of triggering the mess.
The general public? If you are from Thuringia? You might really care about the discussion. But the rest of Germany has limited interest. It does lay out some serious political issues brewing, and the marginal resolutions for fixing these.
The show? It'll be on at 9:45 PM, on Channel One.
