There's a great video report off NDR (the northern region's public TV network of Germany) which covers one of the few bars open in Hamburg.....24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
I highly recommend the piece (it is in German), and it's about 30-minutes long. Will be up for about four weeks.
Hamburg is one of those dozen-odd cities in Germany that has extreme character and charm. The amount of beer consumption having something to do with it? Yes, without any doubt. There are locals there who get up at 5 AM, and stop off for a beer before work, and they will engage in a hearty conversation while sipping on the beer.
