What the police say:
1. Mid 50s guy drove his SUV into the Trier shopping district, with absolute intent of hitting folks. Description is that he was drunk.
2. Four local dead, one of which was a baby.
3. Political or terror intent? So far, no. Guy is a local German. SUV is a upscale model.
Nothing else for facts.
I would suggest that most shopping districts in Germany are blocked off, after 10 AM. Early morning access is given for deliveries. Either he drove in early or found a weak security point.
UPDATE: 2 Dec. Police say the drunk driver had 1.4 mille alcohol rate (fairly drunk). Police also suggest that the guy has some severe mental issues. Odds are that he'll never spend a day in prison.....mental facility is likely outcome.
