Five German News Stories

 1.  Coalition talks between the SPD, Greens and Linke Party in Berlin city government.....fell apart.  SPD noted around lunch yesterday that they would go and forge a city gov't with the CDU as the lead.

In the other corner....the Green Party is also talking to the CDU, and hoping their chances improve.

Giffey (current mayor, SPD chief for the region)?  She appears to be accepting the junior situation.  Kai Wegner will become the new mayor of Berlin....if this continues on (give the CDU a chance to resolve problems in the city).

2.  Amazon center in the Berlin area (Brieselang) to close down.  Was opened around a decade ago.  Loss of jobs figured at 600 to 700 folks.

3.  There's a lot of skepticism building up over this draft idea of forbidding new natural gas/oil heat systems in private homes from 2024 on. 'Big' government is mentioned a good bit.

You basically are being led toward a heat pump, and in a number of cases....older homes would require a fair amount of renovation to make this work.

FDP Party had comments to suggest that they won't agree to dumping oil and natural gas heat.

4.  Locally in the region....a court case against a number of police officers finally got dumped yesterday.  Case had revolved around the police in Frankfurt.

Almost all of the investigation and charges....related to social media comments, and that it was racists/anti-Semitic in nature.

Well, the judge finally halted things and said the vast majority of this case was built on articles or stories....which were satire....which is protected by the German Constitution.

Hate to suggest it, but if this is true.....it begs questions how they got so deep into the case and not recognize the satire or humor angle.

5.  Commerzbank is now back into the DAX.  It'd been down-listed on the stock exchange around three to four years ago.  Now up-listed.
