21 Oct 2024: Nine German News Stories

 1.  From that stabbing story in Penne yesterday that I told....police updated things.  Four folks stabbed and surviving.  The young gentlemen that the police arrested....is a German, and has a mental condition (meaning he was a bit unhinged). All five (stabber and victims) lived in the same house....knowing each other.

2.  Some kind of home-made bomb exploded in Wetzler (Hessen) on Saturday.  Cops still investigating.

Occurred in front of a bar (closed, 4:39 AM).  Looks like some crime-payback situation.

3.  Heat wave this week....day-time temperature expected to hit 20 C.

4. 57 protest folks were arrested in Berlin yesterday, at a pro-Palestine protest.  Twelve police were injured in the episode.

5.  Finance Ministry is hinting of a 'IRA-like' retirement concept for Germans.  Passage likely?  I give it 50-50 with the coalition.  A lot of Germans will say they cannot afford to invest even 100 Euro a month into such a plan.

6.  One in eight German kids cannot be put in a daily childcare situation, because of a lack of openings.

7.  Some knifing incident on a train....between Offenburg and Gegenbach.

What the cops say?  An attack with a knife or other sharp object occurred on Sunday morning on a regional train between Gegenbach and Offenburg. The perpetrator?  Gal in her 40s....seemed dazed (drugged-up)....walked away after slashing a couple of passengers on the train.  Cops still looking for her (likely not a German....had a Eastern European  accent).

8.  Mordovia (next to Ukraine) had a vote yesterday.....the public voted down the idea of joining the EU.

An unknown woman stabbed a woman with a knife or other sharp object on Sunday morning at around 8 a.m. on a regional train between Gengenbach and Offenburg. According to a police statement, this was preceded by an argument.
