First, this AM....six CDU Party folks from Saxony wrote a open letter to their party structure in the state. If you remember....a couple of weeks ago...a state election occurred and AfD (the right-wing folks) won (not a majority of course). So a coalition has NOT formed yet, and the six folks want to encourage the party (who has set a stance that they won't talk to AfD for coalition purposes).
The CDU in this case...came in second place and they would get the chance to form a coalition if AfD fails.
So here's the bottom line....I'm guessing that of all Saxony CDU members....it's probably not just the six encouraging a CDU-AfD coalition.....just that they have some willing nature NOT to partner with the Greens or BSW. In either case, the CDU would have to weaken their position on various things.
Nationally? The CDU has been blunt.....no talks with AfD.
What happens if AfD fails on their coalition attempt, and the CDU fails on their attempt? No one has enough votes to run the 3rd place winner and lesser winners.
Generally, you'd reach a end-point....no coalition, and another state election (probably in January) would have to occur.
Would this worry anyone? It might worry the national-level CDU folks.
Second, the Mayor of Kassel (2 hours north of Frankfurt) is talking up the idea of selling their stock in the Kassel Airport. Note, the Mayor is a Green Party person, and recently met with environmentalists who want the Kassel Airport closed down.
The Hessen state gov't spent a fair amount of money (over 200-million) to renovate the airport around a decade ago....in hopes of attracting vacation flights. That idea....more or less...failed.
There are a handful of flights each month, and the airport is mostly a money-pit.
Selling their stocks? I think the city wants some commercial operation to plan a better use of the airport.
