28 Oct 2024: Five German News Stories

 1.  There's a piece in Focus this AM....young politicians talking about the daily stress environment going on, and how it's TOO MUCH to handle.  Internal conflicts arising....health issues...etc.

If you asked me on man-hours per week, I'd take a guess that at the Bundestag-level....it's around 50 man-hours a week....with four weeks of summer vacation.

2.  This Brandenburg state coalition chatter....CDU, SPD and BSW.....is stalled (CDU admits this over the weekend).  Blame mostly going toward hard-line by BSW.

3.  Former SPD Party 'boss' and Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel spoke up this weekend and said early federal  election was the only way to go.....nothing really works with the SPD, Greens and FDP at present.

4.  Garmisch-Partenkirchen, mid-town area, Saturday afternoon.....an older couple (60s) were attacked on the street.  Police showed up within a minute or two....they were attacked.  Attacker eventually ran  off....wasn't caught.  All that is said....belief that the person was under some kind of psychological disorder.  Older lady and at least one policeperson ended up at the hospital.

5.  State of Bavaria had a forced-retirement law for firefighters...at age 65.  Well...state has discussed the matter and wants to raise it to age 67.  Bill came up for discussion and didn't get the votes required.
