Well.....he started out with the intention that he wanted to stay within the Bavarian Army as long as possible. So this job came up....summer of 1919....there was a 'appointment' arranged.
For the pay-scale of 20 Marks a month....he was to be appointed Verbindungsmann (basically a secret-intelligence agent) of the Reichswehr. Basic job? To influence vets and investigate the DAP (the original party formed prior to the NAZIs).
In today's terms....he'd be referred to as agent-provocateur.
DAP? 'German Worker's Party'.
First couple of months? Basically attending meetings....which mostly bored the hell out of Hitler. These meetings disorganized? That's the chief comment that historians have of this era.
