Germany and Covid-19: 1 Apr 2021

 1.  Off N-TV this morning....a German virus expert is expecting a huge upswing on people needing ICU beds, and the nation will max out (hard to believe they'd reach that level).  His prediction....this Easter weekend, with a lot of Germans traveling....will trigger some massive increase by the end of April.

Factual estimate?  Well....a lot of virus experts are negative about Germans going off to Mallorca on vacations, and they feel the virus numbers will surge a week or two after they come back.

2.  Total vaccinated (first shot), 9.4-million (around 11.3-percent).  Saarland (the state) is nearing 14-percent (highest vaccinated state in Germany).  Total deaths: 76,389.  Total deaths from my local town of Wiesbaden?  225.

3.  Jobs now being affected?  Some would argue that the 1,000 cut-jobs that Saturn (the electronics shop in Germany) announced yesterday are part of the downward economy.  Part of this trend triggered by Covid-19 is people drifting over to on-line sales (if the store isn't opened)....so you simply don't need as many shops existing.

4.  The biggest of these conspiracy theories going on?  There is this story that started up in the last month or two....involving the masks you wear (mandated to wear) to protect you while in buses or while shopping.

'Bugs' (really morgellons) get into the body by the moist air held by the mask.  So, experts have gone looked at the story.  What untrained people are seeing (assuming they have their own microscope) is the fibers of the mask itself on the skin, and thinking they are moving (when they aren't).

The suggestion of nano-robots also being part of the mask contamination?  Well....yeah.  That bogus story started up as well.  I admit....some of these people have watched an excessive amount of science-fiction.

5.  For months in Belgium, there have been legal challenges over the Covid-rules used by the authorities.  Well....yesterday, the Belgium court system finally stood up and said a lot of these ban rules are illegal.

What the court then said?  They gave the government 30 days to either pass laws or remove the ban rules.  Basically, they are saying that you can't just make up a ban-rule as a regulation....without having a basic law to say you have that power.

6.  The idea that a majority of Germans will be immunized by mid-summer (say, mid-July)?  Statistically, it does look like a near-impossible task.  A lot of the hype goes to the question of how much vaccine can you farm out to individual doctors/clinics.  More deliveries are expected and there's this chatter of the German Army bringing on more resources to vaccinate.  I would suspect that if they hit around 50-percent in mid-July...they will say that's a success (in some way).  The herd-number often used?  Sixty-percent.

How many Germans will refuse the vaccination?  That's the great unknown.  It might be only 10-to-15 percent.  It might go up to around 25-percent.  It might even be near 35-percent.
