The Schizophrenia 'Threat'

Manfred Lutz gave a public commentary over recent terror-like attacks in Germany, via a great article in Focus....which I recommend a read.

He goes into details the attacks in Frankfurt, Hanau, and Wurzburg.  In all three cases, it is in his mind.....classic cases of paranoid schizophrenia.

In the Frankfurt case (the German kid was pushed into the path of an arriving train), this Eritrean-turned-Swiss guy had shown problems six to eight years after his arrival, and had been under some limited treatment.

The Hanau guy wasn't a migrant or immigrant....but an actual German who was suffering from schizophrenia.

I noticed a court case being played out in Munich from yesterday.....this again from Focus.

This was a 20-year old Afghan guy who attempted to steal a car, and his masterplan was to drive it through a crowd and kill as many as possible.

This was back in the summer of 2020.  In the court, it's now been laid out that the police and social workers were already aware of his behavioral problems in 2019 (threatening to kill someone).

What stopped the guy from getting a car?  As he attempted to hijack a car at a red-light....plain clothes police were there and acted quickly.

So, the question is....just how bad is this schizophrenia threat?  I can walk into Wiesbaden and in a normal 4-hour walk around town.....I can probably point out at least a dozen men and women with the problem.  Most aren't threatening people (at least not yet), but they might standing there with their invisible friend and discussing weather.

Like the trend that occurred in the US in the 1960s.....Germans reached a point where mandated stays in mental facilities was condemned and out-patient care (with the right drugs) became the norm.

How many folks suffer from schizophrenia?  Doctors tend to throw the 1-percent number around.  Men having it two to three times more than women?  That's also a general fact handed out by doctors (no explanation).

What you can glean from this discussion?  As much as you'd like to attach the concept of 'terror' onto some folks.....it's just as likely they are paranoid schizophrenic and no one ever stood up to detain or place the guy in a facility.
