1.1 Million Vacancies?

It's a page one story told by ARD (German public TV, Channel One), but I doubt if most Germans will get hyped or enthusiastic about it.

The Job Center, where Germans would go and get employment.....had 1.1 million vacancies to talk about during the first quarter of 2018.

That exceeds the previous record by around 7,000 jobs (for a quarter).

Where are most of the jobs?  Western Germany.  Their take on the 1.1 million was around 930,000 vacant positions.  The eastern side of Germany.....260,000.

What kind of positions in this group?  Tax consultants, architects, market researchers, advertising specialists and computer experts.

One of the curious things admitted in this story is that from 2017....nearly four of every ten positions were noted by the companies as being difficult to fill.

I've talked about this a great deal, in that German business growth continues to be in an upward trend, and just because you have thirty new positions within a thousand-employee company.....doesn't mean that you will easily find the thirty folks to fill the position.  Often in German companies now....temp agencies are the search-and-find organization which goes to the work that used to be solely between the company and the job-center.  In some ways, the job-center operation (run by the German government) have reduced their importance to the general public.

As for finding all of the people to fill the jobs?  Well....to a great extent....the new migrant or immigrant population will not be filling many of the highly technical jobs (like IT support or tax consultant).  Some of these positions will be filled by non-Germans (mostly EU member state personnel), who get hired and end up taking German classes to fill the language situation.

All positive?  Yes, it continues to show the dynamics of the Merkel strategy to support business growth in Germany.
