More on Ellwangen

I essayed this story from Sunday from Ellwangen (Baden-Wurttemberg) over the cop's effort to pick up this one failed visa applicant, and the 150 asylum seekers of the immigration facility there preventing the cops from taking him.  So an update to this....from Focus (the German news magazine).

Apparently the guy in question that the cops sought to take....has spoken up....a 23-year old Togolese guy.

His quote, from Bild (the newspaper):  "My brothers came to my aid.  The police tried in February to deport me. Germany says 'Welcome' to us refugees. They give each person a toleration. Now they came for the second time. My brothers came to the rescue that they can not take me. "

The order on this guy?  It appears that he signed up for asylum in Italy....which means by the rules in place....you can only go through this whole thing then in the country that you signed into.  It's not a menu-situation where you pick and choose after you signed the paperwork.

As for the cops and the next step?  I would take a guess that by this weekend....at least a hundred cops will show up in some dramatic fashion to take this one single guy.  On man-hours alone, you can figure a cost of 20,000 Euro.

Locals feeling negative about the behavior here?  Well, yes.

The point here where you shake your head is that Germans have an expectation of compliance.  When the legal system or court hands down a judgement....it has to be complied with.  This guy....new in the country....doesn't get it.  He's treating the German government like his former country, and just saying he doesn't have to comply.  The real blame though?  It goes back to 2013/2014 and the Berlin leadership standing there and saying there's simply an open-door policy on migration and asylum.....never once saying that once you arrive, there will be a process of evaluation, and if you have zero skills, craft, university degree.....with no language capability.....it's almost a zero chance of you staying.

UPDATE:  Well....that didn't take long.  In the last thirty minutes (Thursday morning), the N-TV news folks started to carry the latest.  Massive police presence at the Ellwangen refugee center.  Locals saying a number of police buses and vehicles showing up.  The term 'several dozen team buses' was used....so you can figure a minimum of 200 cops involved in this episode.  The cops say they will issue a full report when the mission ends.  Whatever the migrants felt they were doing in the interest of protecting this guy up for deportation....it's opened up a Pandoras Box of reaction.
