I sat over the past week and watched the first season of a Danish Si-Fi series for Netflix, entitled 'Rain'.
First, it's rare that the Danes ever make a science fiction piece. In this case, the Netflix folks found a team that had some decent story, and felt that they could deliver.
Second, the story? Well....some 'bug' has gotten out into the weather business, and when it rains....you get infected, and pass away in 60 seconds. I admit, it's pretty silly but it's the Danish idea of zombies....without zombies.
Third, the basis of episode one is that 'dad' has been working for some biological company bent on designing a virus, to trigger the disaster, and then working to find the cure. 'Buffy' (the daughter) has to take care of 'Junior' (her younger brother). Dad got them to some bunker, but has to leave (he ain't coming back), and they end up spending five years in the bunker. Yeah, food, water, etc.....it was all there to help them survive.
So I come to the prime driving force of Netflix.....they are going out and getting teams to produce stuff that typically would never get produced via normal TV media, and it's working. I have to give them credit.
It's roughly eight to ten episodes, and finished for season one. I think there will be a season two (at least I'm hoping for that).
