It was a little brief news item on N-TV that caught my interest today.
Over the past decade, various agenda groups have brought up this one idea....requiring driving tests for older Germans. Typically, they are talking about some magical point (say 70 to 75) where you'd have to come into a private driver's training shop and do a yearly or semi-yearly test.
This got brought up to the German Federal Transport Minister (Scheur, CSU).
Scheur said in a very clear and blunt way.....no.
He suggests that statistics don't demonstrate a need for testing senior citizens for driving skills.
Oddly enough, it's brought up that via the 28 members of the EU....only six have a non-testing requirement.
Is it a major issue? Medically, I could see where you'd ground a guy or gal when their vision has reached a point where they can't clearly see.
