INF Chatter

Over the past ten days, I've watched a fair amount of negative reaction by the German news media over the US temporary withdrawal from the INF Disarmament Agreement.  Slam after slam, after slam.....from the nightly news of both ARD and ZDF (the two public TV networks of Germany).

Today, a little small note popped up (from N-TV, the commercial news network in Germany).....they noted that Russia admitted over the weekend that Russia spoke up on it's developmental projects of a medium-range missile (plus-500 kilometer range).  The project?  Obviously, it's been underway for several years.

The new technology working with land-based hypersonic medium-range missiles?  Beyond the technology of the 1980s.

So basically, the Russians will go from zero to sixty rather quickly.....skipping the developmental business because it's already a proven technology.

How stupid do the ARD and ZDF journalists look?  That's the curious thing from watching the spectacle from the past week.  At some point, these journalists have to appear in some news piece and say in some way.....it really didn't matter what President Trump did....that the Russians had already developed this technology.  In fact, you have to wonder if this was already developed back in 2008 to 2016, during the Obama era....and that everyone simply looked the other way and pretended technology developments were not taking place.

Should the Germans even worry about this 500 kilometer hypersonic missile?  No.  Because of the natural gas flow into Germany, and the dependence that Russia has on German customers....there's zero chance of Russia using the missile to threaten Germany.  This is the other comical side of the story and the odd behavior of the journalists involved.
