On Speed Reduction Chatter

This came up over the weekend....within the discussion of reducing speeds on German roads (being driven by the environmentalists).

Focus brought up the basic details and laid this amusing little story.

Germany Environmental Aid (a foundation) has the political objective of mandating 80 kph on B-roads, and 120 kph on autobahns.  It would be a harsh step for Germans to face, if these folks were successful with their agenda.

So BILD, the national newspaper came up and asked them how they arrived at their numbers, and they admitted that it was a German study conducted in 1999.  Curiously, the data set used in this study (from twenty years ago)....came from six years prior.

Anything more recent?  No.

A national agenda being pursued across various lines.....based on data from the early 1990s?  Yeah.

You would sit and pause over this.....thinking that studies are conducted yearly across various data sets, and you'd have something every five years to work with and define your agendas.  Well.....no.  What this foundation hooked up to....was an agreeable study that fits it's desires, and little else.  One might wonder if there are studies which have been done, which might be similar to the 1990s version, and sadly.....they tell another story in 2019.  But it's best not to suggest this to a German.
