Well...this occurred in the last week apparently down in Vienna, Austria.
What the police generally say is that they came to approach this guy (no age given, and nothing mentioned on WHY they needed to ID the guy). Generally, German or Austrian don't approach people for an ID unless there's something weird going on, or a threat has been made.
While in this situation of IDing the guy....he farted.
Cops say it was intentional, and thus an 'insult' against the police. The fine? 500 Euro ($600 roughly).
What kind of fart was this? Unknown. A bad one or just a weak one? Unknown.
Will the guy appeal the fine? I'm guessing some lawyer will arrive and take the case on a free basis.
A travel warning on farting? No, I just can't make that kind of recommendation for folks traveling into Germany or Austria.
