The murder case of CSU regional politician Walter Lubcke will open this week in Frankfurt. In case you haven't heard of the situation....some background.
Lubcke was murdered on 1 June 2019....up in the Kassel region of Hessen (northern part of the state). He was shot in the head around midnight.
Cops spent roughly two weeks on the case, and DNA came into play....with a guy noted for far-right activity. On 25 June, the guy admitted his guilt.
What was the trigger for this? Well....it goes back to the October period of 2015, when Lubcke (a serious major part of the CDU political apparatus in the Hessen region)...stood up and made a public comment that if you weren't supporting the pro-asylum or pro-migration direction of Germany, then you needed to leave the country.
Yes, it was rather blunt, and at the time....some thought he'd retract this and calm folks down. But that never came. So a fair number of folks who were anti-migrant and anti-asylum....fell into this dislike of Lubcke. On social media, it was a serious matter.
This young guy charged with the murder? He went to the level of planning out a murder on the politician.
Evidence here? It's all there, with enough on the things he's said....to convict the guy.
Problems? If this guy stands up in court and demands his opportunity to speak (knowing that he's convicted no matter what happens and will spend twenty-plus years in prison).....he's going to talk for a while and suggest that Lubcke's words....were in some fashion 'hateful' and not in support of German law. Whether correct or not.....it basically inflames people over this era of the pro-asylum business.
A major part of the next two weeks? Yes. It'll be nightly reported in Hessen, and details will be divided over guilt or political-speak.
