Riding the Rail Home for Christmas

Normally, around the week of Christmas in Germany (starting around the 19th of December)...the Bahn folks (the railway company) go into overdrive, with a serious number of Germans who hit the rails to return 'home'.

This year, in the midst of Covid-19?  Well....this is now a discussion item.

The Bahn folks say now that they intend to add around 100 extra trains to the national network between 18 and 27 December.  Extra cars on these trains?  That's the hint.

All of this is to create the image of spaced-out....socially-distanced customers who are riding the railway network.

New ICE trains being pushed into operation early....to help make this a success?  Yes.

One might ask the question....will people even make this extra effort to ride by train....back home?

I would be skeptical of this idea.  If you were suggesting to me that I need to travel down to my local station....board a train and ride in semi-cramped situations?  Then suggest that I might have to flip twice in this trip to reach the final station.....being stalled four hours in some station because of weather conditions....then coming into contact with a thousand people and a dozen of them screwed-up with the virus?  I'd decline, and probably just stay home.

Maybe it's all good intentions, but you just look at this scenario, and shake your head.
