There are various 'titles' now given to this topic, but it centers on the fact that the Ukraine came to Germany in the past ten days.....asking for 100,000 military helmets.
Some say it was a test to see what Germany would do. Some think it was an honest request.
So the reaction of Germany? They came back and said they'd provide 5,000 helmets (roughly 5-percent of what they wanted in anticipation of war).
This has dragged up a lot of criticism, and it begs questions.
My humble belief belief is that Germany's military logistics guy was asked....how many 'extra' helmets do we have? You know.....like in the depot or the WW II bunker in Brandenburg. He probably pulled out the sheet and said....5,000 extra helmets exist and can be shipped in the next week.
The chief of the Bundeswehr (Lambrecht, SPD) then signed the paperwork and felt done. The fact that it was only 5-percent of the request? Well....for those who weren't aware.....the 1970's style helmet which ran around $40 in the US.....today runs around 1200 Euro for the German style upgraded helmet (with all the fancy extra stuff). So just asking for 10,000 of them....would have run around 12-million Euro. For German political folks.....that's a ton of money and would freak them out.
Multiply that by ten, and you have 120-million Euro.
To be honest, with finances as screwed up as they are, with all the Covid stuff and money handed out for economic woes since 2020.....there just isn't any real money to go off and fight a war, or to help others fight wars.
If this were some low-budget deal.....Serbia trying to fight a 3-week war against some rebel Bosnia force....it'd be affordable. But some four-star Russia situation and running into billions of Euro? Good heavens.....no one can afford that type of situation.
