The 1.5-Meter Story

Among the Covid ban rules dumped on Friday....was the stupid 1.5-meter rule at German bars, cafes and restaurants.

Going back about 18 months ago....this rule got handed down, so if you were open, you had to have chairs/table 1.5 meters from others.

So you'd walk into a restaurant that was open and find that of the normal thirty tables in the place....six tables disappeared, and the owner basically gave up around a quarter of his business....to meet this ban-rule.

There was a bakery in Wiesbaden where I'd go once in a while...a ten-table place, once the 1.5 meter rule came up......roughly half the tables went away.  Getting a place to sit....then became practically impossible.

My local bakery in the village?  They marginally had two tables before Covid (two chairs each), and they went away entirely while under Covid. You just bought your coffee/cake 'to-go'.

Germans to adjust to this?  I'm not sure....some folks really got used to 1.5 meters being the norm.
