In the last couple of weeks, this mask affair 'scandal' has started up with the CDU Party members in Germany (three of them). Basically, they all saw a chance to get Corona masks made up in foreign countries....import them into Germany....selling them for profit.
As scandals go, I'd kind of rate this as a marginal 1-to-2 star scandal.
After a while, I considered how an American Democrat or Republican would have handled this.
The American politician would not have been 'bright-enough' to grasp the profit to this, but their lobbyist helping them would have explained the whole deal.
So the American politician would have called up his cousin, his son, his brother, or his wife....getting them to engage in the Corona mask import deal, to keep him out of the focus. Later, he'd be 'paid back'.
The American politician would NOT have aimed for a lousy 250k Euro profit. He would have aimed for five to ten million in profit.
The American news media, upon learning it was a Democrat in on the deal....would probably avoid reporting on the story. Upon learning it was a Republican, they would have covered the story by 150-percent....even discussing what shoes the lobbyist was wearing or what color of blouse the wife wore when concluding the deal.
Yeah, there is a difference between American and German politics.
