News Chatter

A study was done in 2018 on Germans and how they get their news....done by PEW.  So, the landscape?

1.  32-percent of German adults get their main news from ARD (public TV) nightly news.  Only 7-percent get it from ZDF (public TV).

2.  If you asked most Germans how they rate the bias?  They give an even score to Bild, RTL (commercial network news), and FaZ.  ARD is rated slightly to the left on bias.

3.  A majority of Germans (80-percent) give 'trust' to ARD.  Three out of four Germans said their trust with Bild is just not there.

4.  Germans looking at social media (Facebook, Twitter) for news?  Sixty percent said zero.  Only 26-percent said they get 'some' news from social media.

Is society changing?  I would opt for the trend that younger Germans are less inclined to read news magazines or daily newspapers (probably a trend that's been going on for thirty years).

There is also this other trend which the public TV networks don't like talking about.....most young people are inclined to watch none of their material (movies, shows, news,  etc).  They also don't want to pay the tax.

If you asked me over the next decade if this will become a political issue?  Well....I think long-term.....ARD and it's sister unit (ZDF) will be forced to merge and be only one network.  A lot of grumbling will occur, and various employees will be forced to seek new employment.

News....face it....is about to enter a evolution.
