The Thing About Tanks

Interesting piece off N-TV news today.....on Russian warfare with tanks.

So in 1941, the Swedes made this anti-tank 'rifle' (Carl Gustof model), and this 1941 weapon.....about every decade....has evolved, but has now been used in the Ukraine war...against Russian tanks.  To be honest, it's been successful.

The general suggestion?  Well...they threw it out there....maybe tank warfare has come to a useful end.

I would have mixed feelings in this discussion.

In wooded areas....with anti-tank weapons.....you might hold a advantage over tanks.  On the open plain?  You might not be able to get that close to take the tank out.

The fact that Russian tanks for the past few decades have been built without a lot of protection from hits?  Well....there is that problem, I agree.  I believe they just didn't think anti-tank missiles would evolve and become a big threat.

But this is the same argument about manned-fighters, and how unmanned flight vehicles are likely the future of warfare.

About every thirty to forty years, there is some evolution in warfare, and technology takes you to another level.  I would suggest that tank warfare might be affected now.
