Hessen and Deportations

It's a fairly serious issue, but event have turned the topic of deportations in Germany into a 'circus-like' affair.

For the benefit of non-Germans, it may seem shocking but the German federal government (out of Berlin) and even the sixteen state governments.....are NOT responsible for deporting failed asylum seekers or migrants out of Germany.

I know....you'd think some national office would exist and various rules would be formatted and enforced from Berlin.  But.....no.

Here in the state of Hessen (just one of the sixteen states)...you can count up to a total of 31 separate immigration authorities and at least three regional councils who are responsible for deportations.  Naturally, each functions at it's own discretion.

This got brought up today by HR (our public TV network in Hessen).

The Hessen Ministry of Interior has spoken to the topic and would like to lead everyone to a more bundled process....with just three possible authorities making the decisions and running the process. Yes, they could not even bring themselves to suggest one single leadership function for this process.

At the conclusion of 2017, there was a list of 10,000 folks on the failed visa process in Hessen, who needed to exit. In all of 2017.....there were only 1,142 folks who were put on planes or buses, and actually deported.

Opposition to the suggestion of bundling?  Yes.  To some degree, a pro-asylum agenda is on the minds of some political groups (particularly the Greens).  Some people believe that they can better serve the individual, than some group at a state-level.

The odds of this bundling process occurring?  Before the Hessen election?  I have my doubts (mid-summer state election coming up).  Oddly, this topic might end up as a top ten issue in the state and draw more public anger against some political parties.

Is this another failure item of the Berlin leadership?  Well....yeah, it could be viewed that way.  It's simply not one united nation or focused on one unified voice.  Course, if you were in the 10,000 group to be deported....this delay affect is having some stress put upon you, and you keep thinking that you've got a second chance.
