New Head of the SPD Party

A brief moment over Andrea Nahles, the new head of the SPD Party.

Nahles is originally from Mendig, West Germany....a town of roughly 8,000 folks in the Eifel region (the Hunsruck 'woods').

She came from a simple background (her dad was a brick-layer, and the mom was a office clerk).  A clever kid, she went onto college and spent ten years in study.  Subjects?  Germanic language, politics, and philosophy.  She holds a master's degree.

At some point in 2004, she was on her way to a doctorate degree in Germanic language, and dropped out of the program....getting into a political program in Berlin in 2005.  In thirteen years, she's climbed up the ladder, to be the number one figure of the SPD Party.

A Merkel-like character?  To some degree, yes.  She gives intense speeches....loaded with emotion.  She is clever and thoughtful.  So far, no scandals or missteps.
