The Afghan Story

I'll reference Deutsche Welle for most of this story.

Over the past months, Germany has expelled a number of folks....some of which were destined to Afghanistan.

So here's this one case....failed visa applicant....23 years old....sent back to Afghanistan.  He's found dead in a Kabul hotel on 4 July.  Suicide.

Cops say his body was swollen and 'smelled bad'.

Blame has shifted around....some Germans wanting to blame the new German effort to deport failed applicants.  The logic is...if they commit suicide after leaving....it can only be the German government's fault.

I know....it's a pretty curious logic.

So I dug through the reasons for the deportation, and the visa failure.  It's a curious thing.....the guy had been convicted (not just suspected, but convicted) of theft.  He attempted at some point bodily harm on someone.  When the cops were attempting to arrest him....he resisted. Other charges sat out there, yet unconvicted....robbery and grievous bodily assault (that usually means that you hurt the other guy a good bit). Then this odd piece stands out....."violation of the narcotics act".

If you had some weed on you.....cops just usually confiscate it and you don't go into the station for some arrest over plain hash or weed.  So in this case.....an 'actual' violation of the narcotics act?  No one says what drugs, but you'd sit there and imagine that it's not something of a minor nature.

So the question comes up....was he a user too?  The Afghan cops give you simple hint....his body is bloated and there's some smell in the air.  My guess?  He had a fairly serious habit built up, and when they dumped on the plane to Afghanistan.....he had drug dependency issues.  He arrives there in Kabul and starts to realize that his access to the good stuff has ended.  Reality sets in....he does some final batch of some good drugs....and then commits suicide.

Blaming the government?  My question would go back to his drug habit, and how many months in Germany he spent on some drug-high?  And if some deportee nominee is so messed up....that you can't deport them....what exactly are you going to do....allow them to roam the streets?
