Germans hyped up for spring tours to Spain? YES. Mallorca has declared itself no longer a 'hot-zone' and is trying to entice Germans to spend a week there.
So I noticed off Channel One (ARD) coverage this morning....Bavaria has stepped up and said if you (as a state resident) run off to Mallorca....when you fly back in, you will have to take a Covid-19 test. However....they'd like for the German federal government to mandate this....rather than take it on by themselves.
Chief reason? Well...if you think about it, you could as a Bavarian....drive up to Stuttgart, and fly out via their airport (outside of Bavarian territory). So the national requirement probably would make sense.
A big deal in terms of customers? The chatter here is that Eurowings (the airline that handles a lot of vacation packages) has signed up to bring on 300 additional flights over the next month as Easter approaches. You can do the math, but that's a whole lot of passengers.
The odds that Covid-19 will be brought back into Mallorca in serious numbers or that vacationers will return to Germany with serious numbers of Covid-19 folks? It's pretty high.
Would testing be a big deal? Cost-wise, the quickie test is down to around eight to ten Euro....but this would have to be managed and would be manpower intensive at the airports....likely forcing you to spend an hour or two extra to get the test done.
I brought up the idea of a Mallorca trip to the German wife, and this quickly got on the forbidden-to-discuss list. As she suggested....I might as well go lick doorknobs around the village....it'd be the same act of just begging for Covid-19.
