Over the weekend, it's now apparent that the FDP Party (key player in the SPD-Green-FDP coalition government).....has stood up and openly challenged the SPD-led government on Covid.
The two challenges? This attempt by the Health Minister (Lauterbach, SPD) to shorten the 'recovered-status' from six months to three months.....has been done with minimum science or open discussion.
The FDP says 'enough'....revert the recovered-status back to six months (what the EU has stressed as well).
This turning into a four-star mess? Well...we come to the second topic....reviewing the ban-rules, and going to more of a open status (like various European countries are discussing). The FDP wants this open discussion to be conducted.
I discussed this a week ago....indicating that there's just no leadership around who seem to have a willing nature to say it's time to treat Covid like the flu.
Could this lead to a government crisis? Well....the government can only exist as long as the coalition 'survives'. If the FDP says 'enough' and quits.....then there's only one single coalition possible (SPD-CDU-CSU). The Greens would be kicked out and there would be a crisis period for the SPD. Otherwise? A new election....something that the SPD really doesn't want.
The FDP might lead the government to some unpleasant decisions.
