Well....I noticed this story out of Sweden, and it's a bit unusual.
In this one Swedish area....central region of Dalarna (maybe 290,000 over the entire district).....they've got a serious lack of policemen.
Its reached a stage where they've contracted out (hiring) non-policemen to be investigators. A lot of them? Well....roughly fifty folks.
So they aren't even qualified as police? Correct.
Carrying weapons? NO. Their function is just to pick up a reported crime....talk to locals....investigate, and gather evidence for a possible case.
What the shortage is about? Over the past couple of years, I've been following a number of trends and issues. They have generally high standards to be a policeman, and the population landscape is just very limited. It's not a job that people tend to desire.
Public accepting this? Apparently so.
The general question I'd ask.....if this works that well there, why not bring it into the middle of Europe....to France and Germany....just hiring regular people to be investigators for the local police station? Or am I asking a pretty disturbing question?
