I have here scenarios that I've been considering for the past 48 hours....on how this 'ends':
1. The Russian Army goes into a months long episode....very much like the ISIS-Syria 'war'.
With the guerilla type force being developed, and anti-tank weapons in the mix....this is a situation where massive destruction will occur on Ukrainian soil but could easily mix in 50,000 Russian soldier deaths....which are never told to the Russian people. Twenty years into the future, the Russian government agrees to a 'truth-commission' to explain what happened to the 50k Russian men.
While the pro-Russia Ukrainians may initially feel like they are going to finally get their 'brand' of government and 'respect' they deserve.....eventually, they will all gaze around and realize that they (with the help of the Russian military) have destroyed most of the landscape. Just me saying this, but I think their hyped-up nature will dissolve in the next six weeks.
In this scenario, the economic landscape of Russia is disseminated to the level of North Korea, with printed Rubles carrying the bulk of society through the end of 2022, and more than a million Russians finding some exit to leave the country by Christmas. I'll even predict some weird 'escape-route' through Kazakhstan will be developed, with air travel out of the region to Dubai, and onto the EU or the US.
2. A coup occurs within the United Russia Party, with forty-odd members staging a front against the Kremlin, and political collapse occurs with the Kremlin government.....meaning Putin 'disappears'.
I'm not saying Putin goes away easily, and it may simply occur that he's taken....told to shut-up and accept retirement in a unknown location.
This coup then likely ends up a non-Kremlin insider being proclaimed a temporary figure. The 'invasion/war' halts.....with Russian troops removed. There would be a brief negotiation conducted....agreement to 'pay' around 150 billion dollars of damage, but no war crimes charges, and with full release of the Russian assets (to include the yachts of the elite).
The 'war' ends quietly, with no one putting up memorials or statues over the dead in Russia. Blame gets dumped on Putin alone, with all of the Kremlin insiders told in a blunt way to just retire/accept life as a non-VIP.
3. Playing war with NATO.
Under this scenario, with the Russians controlling around 40-percent of the Ukraine (but never winning)....the Russians instruct the EU/US to turn over their financial assets or feel the 'pain'.
The initial 'pain' will be the Wagner Group.....mercenaries who stage car-bombs in Europe and the US.....and assassinate dozens of political figures.
Under this situation.....NATO will finally react, and full-scale war erupts up on the Estonia/Poland region. This sends shockwaves over France and Germany, with missile strikes likely to occur.
Matters escalate over a six-week period with the mercenaries, and eventually turning into the war between what has become the 'new' Soviet Union and NATO.
